Required and optional reading

Wannier=Statistical Physics, Gregory H. Wannier, QC174.8.W35, ISBN 0-486-65401-X (Dover).

Kubo=Statistical Mechanics, Ryogo Kubo, (North Holland).

Callen=Thermodynamics and an Introduction to Thermostatistics, Herbert B. Callen, QC311.C25, ISBN 0-471-86256-8, (John Wiley).

Possibly the best reading at this level is Mathematical Statistical Mechanics, Colin J. Thompson, (MacMillan, 1972). The entire book is excellent and should be read. It is the only text that contains all of the course topics except for quantum statistics. It is out of print, but a photocopy will be on reserve in 230 GNQ.
