Quantum Videos

- What is the difference between a stationary state and a non-stationary?
See for yourself; stationary state , non-stationary
- The video resonance illustrates the excitation of a resonance
in a potential well by a correctly tuned incident packet. Compare this with a packet whose central momentum is not at one of the well's resonant modes off-resonance. Can you see that the much faster resonant packet appears to penetrate further into the well, and actually spends more time trapped in the well? It should spend less time there since it is faster moving.
- Animation of spherical bessel wave
- Animation of 2-D coherent state. Compare the motion of this
packet to the classical motion (Lissojou figure).
- Animation of Hydrogenic orbital (n,l,m)=3,2,2 (2.3 Mb)
- Animation of a coherent state for z=0.1 (1.2 Mb)
- A single plane wave incident on a Gaussian well; gaussian.gif
Notice the decrease in wavelength in the well. How can you tell that the reflection amplitude
is not zero? What would the wave to the left of the well look like if |R|=1?.
- A single plane wave incident on a square well; well2.gif produces
the following reflected, resonant, and transmitted waves.
- For a packet colliding with a square well, see well.gif . This
packet is a Fourier synthesis of 121 plane waves.
