If you are selecting courses for your next semester at Parkside, please consult your departmental advisor. Download this form, fill it out, and speak with your advisor. Your registration flag will be lifted when your advisor approves your schedule proposal. Current physics advisors are David Bruning and Jeffrey Schmidt. Project gutenberg has thousands of free, downloadable books, including most titles that you would need for literature, philosphy, and humanities courses.
Physics majors get the following privileges and support.
- A locker to store your things in, in room 230 GRNQ. Please see David Bruning about getting a locker assignment and lock.
- Access to department computers, 4 NT5.0 workstations and two Linux multiprocessors in room 231 GRNQ. Please see Jeff Schmidt about passwords and account setup.
- A departmental email account on one of the departmental email servers. see Jeff Schmidt about account setup.
- A webpage on a departmental webserver. see either David or Jeff about setup.
- A majors handbook. HTML version 2006. It details computer use and software, departmental policies, setting up your schedules, advising tips, and other bits of important information about life at Parkside and in the department.
- A CDROM of free software; Programming language compilers, word processing programs, secure-shell clients, graphics programs, web-browsers, and ps/pdf viewers.
- All available free texts for upper division courses on CDROM at your request.
- Qualifying exams at UW-Madison. Physics graduate students must take an exam in the first year of graduate studies that tests basic knowledge of undergraduate subjects. Check these examples.
To declare your major, please go to the Advising Center and fill out a major declaration form. please see either David Bruning, or Jeff Schmidt about advising.
